Those are the best ones, where the Lord pretty much forces you out of bed to give you a greater revelation of truth! If I’m being honest though, I really just wanted to roll over and go back to sleep. But, God!! He always has greater plans!
It was the words “many are called but few are chosen” that ultimately pushed me out of my slumber. In the book of Matthew, Jesus uses this phrase several times as He speaks parables to the disciples. It became clear to me (as I mediated on those words) that Jesus was not just speaking about the world as I had always thought – He was warning the Church! John writes this same message to the seven churches in the book of Revelations. He tells them of what’s to come for those who become laxed and complacent in their walk with God; for those who idolize and exalt themselves; for those who forget their first love; and, for those who compromise and become corrupt.
It’s time, Church – wake up and take heed to the words of Jesus because only few are chosen! Don’t be one of the young ladies who waited to fill their lamps with oil; they were called, but didn’t join in the wedding. Don’t be the man either who came to the wedding in unclean garments – he also was cast out! We need to examine ourselves and our beliefs. The world (as well as some in the Church) have fallen victim to the “just believe” mentality and to the false doctrine that Jesus warned would come to exist. Any mainstream belief of this world merits caution! The majority does not always win, especially in God’s kingdom. Jesus says “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it” – Matthew 7:1.
This world is overrun with false doctrine and false prophets, just as scripture foretold. 1 Timothy 4:4, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” We must remain vigilant and steadfast and proclaim the Oneness of God. 1 John 5:7, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” We are commanded to teach all nations this truth, baptizing them in the name of Jesus (Matthew 28:18-19; Acts 2:38). The harvest is here, Church and the time is now – we must repent of our ways, pick up our cross and walk Holy with Jesus as we are called (and chosen) to do!
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23-24
