Over the past several weeks, the Lord has been pouring out His Spirit of truth and revelation in my life. What He has shown me is that many Christians – including myself – lack in understanding and knowledge of the Word of God. While we have basic knowledge, the depth of our understanding is fairly shallow. This is why many of us fall short in the commandment to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38). It turns out, you can’t teach something, especially not with boldness and authority, if you don’t fully understand it. On a side note, the connect groups were the ignition to this outpouring of revelation. Make it a point to join one if you haven’t already.
So where do we start?! Start small – for me, I had to go back to the fundamental concepts and precepts of God; the building blocks of truth, if you will. I should warn you though, acknowledging that you may not have the best understanding of the gospel (or good news) can be humbling and difficult to digest. I mean, after all, our eternal existence happens to be centered entirely on our understanding of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ – it’s kind of a big deal if you don’t have this nugget of revelation.
You may be saying to yourself right now, “how could she not know the gospel; it’s so basic.” Well, knowing and understanding are two different concepts. I knew and believed that Jesus died for my sins, but what I didn’t understand is how we are reconciled to Him through the process. We identify with His death through repentance; His burial through water baptism; and His resurrection through baptism of the Holy Spirit. Romans 6:4, “Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
I also didn’t understand how or why His blood heals us from our brokenness and the wounds of life. But through my studies and through listening to the voice of God, I get it now. The natural world always reflects the spiritual world. The blood that flows through our body is a healing agent; when we are injured, it is the blood rushing to the impacted area that begins the healing process. Same with Jesus – His perfect blood covers the site of our wounds and heals all brokenness within us. Without the blood, there is no life (in nature or in spirit).
Revelation from God is so powerful! It revives you and stirs a passion for the Word inside of you. You begin to hunger and desire for a greater understanding of Truth. There is increase in your faith and authority when you hear (and respond to) the voice of God. I feel more equipped and confident to witness to those who are lost than ever before; but without this increase, I might miss opportunities or shy away from what Jesus has commanded His Church to do. Matthew 28:18-19, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”
Lord, thank you for revelation and for the revival it brings. Let Your fire fall upon those who hunger for Truth and who will receive Your increase. Help us to speak Your Word with boldness and authority to those You put in our paths. Let it be Your light that leads the way. In Jesus Name. Amen.
