“The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.” Psalm 68:8
“Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;” Psalm 114:7
Those are powerful scriptures! The Earth is told to tremble; the heavens drop; great mountains move at just His presence. (Imagine what happens when He speaks. Hint: He spoke existence into existence!) So why is it that we aren’t always moved in His presence? Why is it that sometimes prayer or worship or kingdom work feels like a burden? Put simply (this may hurt a bit), we are spoiled rotten and complacent. Said in biblical terms, we have become “lukewarm.”
We are so accustomed to being in the presence of Jesus that we take it for granted. It happens to us all – we get lost in life and find ourselves worn out. We don’t want to do more work, we don’t want to push ourselves in prayer, and raising our hands or dancing during worship, well that’s just too much effort.
The Earth trembles at His presence – ask yourself, how do you respond in the presence of the Almighty? Be honest with yourself. When the Holy Ghost moves in service or in the prayer room, do you engage? Do you participate or do you spectate? I said this might be painful, but it’s important that we are real with ourselves. It’s the first step of transformation.
We should continually remind ourselves that being in the presence of Jesus is a privilege – not an entitlement. There are many people in this world who are spiritually blind or haven’t been privileged with the filling of the Holy Ghost. Our vision when we are in the Spirit is perfect and we are made whole by the One true living god – we should act like it!
Let’s rejoice in His presence! Let’s dance in His presence! Let’s give honor and praise in His presence! Most importantly, let’s be transformed BY His presence! We are chosen and called for His purpose; There is no other gift that’s greater! 1 Peter 2:9, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
Lord, I thank you for baptizing me with Your fire! Let me not be complacent, let me not take your presence for granted. Jesus, I bind the spirit of apathy in the Church and loose the fire of the Holy Ghost, in Your mighty name! Amen.
