Even in the Little Things

Life seems to have this constant state of busyness lately. Slowing down to smell the roses is not a concept I even have time to think about, yet alone practice. This state of being is terribly toxic to our spiritual (and physical) health. We rush through everything, missing opportunity after opportunity to bask in the goodness of God. Even worse, we often miss the opportunity to testify and speak Jesus over the lives of others. I am grateful my recent experience did not fall into this category, but it could have very easily. It was only through a nudge of the Holy Spirit that I lifted my head from the fog of busyness to see the works of God.
Long story short. Earlier this week I had a fairly large transaction to close at work; there were two sides of the deal – a buy side and a sell side. When I received the trade tickets, I noticed the sold securities had a later settlement date on them. I didn’t think much of it, just thought it was odd. Usually with a transaction like that, both sides of the trade close on the same day. Nonetheless, I continued in my busy work and finished the task I was working on.
The next day is when I realized I had made a mistake – it wasn’t a huge mistake, but it required a little extra time for my team to work through. Hmmmm, a little extra time…how odd. Wasn’t it just the day before that I noticed the later settlement dates?! Could it possibly be for the trades that needed more time to clear up?! You guessed it! What an awesome and omniscient God we serve – not only did He foresee the situation at hand, but He also provided a way through it. Jesus made a way even in the littlest of my concerns.
We have this misconception of who God is – He doesn’t just calm the sea during the storms of life. He is the Waymaker in all things. He is a Father full of love who works on behalf of His children before they even cry out. Isaiah 65:24, “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Luke 12:7 tells us that the very hairs on our head are numbered; you can be assured that God also knows who and what disturbs them. He is present in all things – big and small – when we allow Him to be.
This week my head was down and I almost missed the blessing. I almost missed the increase of faith and understanding of who Jesus really is in my life. It is essential that we lift our heads out of the fog and recognize His goodness in every aspect of our life. Without the foundation of faith and trust that is built through God’s work in the seemingly little things, we will not have victory over the enemy.
Jesus, thank you for the nudges in life. Help me to have my eyes set upon You so I can receive every work you do in my life. Encourage and increase the faith of Your children. Keep us grounded and direct us in the way of righteousness. In Your mighty name. Amen.
