5 Catalysts to a Great Church

If one word could be used to describe church services over the past years, many would use the word “good.” There is not much wrong with “good”. It doesn’t mean anyone is failing; It doesn’t mean there is a dire need for improvement; It’s honest and generally satisfying, but there is something out there that supersedes “good.” As Pastor McGee stated a few services ago, the enemy of great is good. Who wants to be “good”, when you can be “great”!?
Over the past months, we have seen progressively more and more powerful services. Great is beginning to stomp out the status quo of good. This past week we were highly blessed to have Bro. Isaiah Salomon speak to our church. His confirmation of Pastor McGee’s desire to leave “good” behind and become “great” was given in 5 simple steps he titled as “Catalysts to a Great Church”.
The first catalyst to a great church is “Salvation and the Born-Again Experience.” In John 3:1-17, Nicodemus makes notice that Jesus must be of God because of the signs that followed Him. Jesus replies telling Nicodemus that, “Verily, verily, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” The people of a “great” church can and will see the kingdom of God. Jesus goes on to say that we must be born of water and the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God. When the people of the church are born of water and the Spirit, God’s will can be done here on earth as it is in heaven -the works of God’s kingdom will be seen. As Jesus says, we “must be born again.”
The second catalyst to a great church is “Healing and Restoration.” Born of and filled with the Spirit, the people of the church will see that they truly can “do all things through Christ which strengthens them” Phi 4:13. As the Holy Spirit moves through us to bring healing and restoration, the faith of the church is strengthening. As faith strengthens, there will be more healings and more restoration so that those around us will notice, like Nicodemus, that we must be of God.
The third catalyst to a great church is “Fasting”. Fasting brings revelation, authority and the ability to overcome the flesh. As we gain faith, the enemies of our soul will come seeking to destroy the greatness that is blooming. Fasting brings clarity, and clarity brings revelation. When we have a true revelation of the Lord’s will in our life, we are able to break free of the grip the world may have on us. We know in Luke 10:19 that we are given “authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and all the power of the enemy.” Fasting strengthens our awareness of our authority. Lastly, our flesh can be our greatest enemy at times. Through fasting we learn we can control its desires and break the hold it has on us.
The fourth catalyst is “Revival.” Revival is defined by Oxford dictionary as “an improvement in the condition or strength of something” or “an instance of something becoming popular, active or important again.” Another word for important is “great.” Revival happens when the church is strengthened and becomes “great” again. As more of God’s people step fully into the Spirit, those who may have been in a spiritual slumber will be awakened to step in unison with their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to become “great”.
The final catalyst is “Outreach.” Full of strength, faith and unity, the church will become a magnet for those in need of what our Lord has to offer. Powerful outreach will become the new status quo for a “great” church. A soul in need of healing, restoration and peace will find great comfort through the Spirit filled people of a “great” church who are fully submitted to the will of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Please join us in prayer asking the Lord to ignite a fire in the souls of His people that will engage these catalysts and lead us to become His Great Church in Jesus’ name.
